Debut Book Out Now
from an unquiet center by
Gil George
From an Unquiet Center is a poetic journey through the many facets of Gil’s internal life. Within these pages are whimsy, despair, restoration, mourning, rejoicing, reminiscence, and a seeking after the questions that lie at the root of faith and life.
About Gil
Gil George lives in Portland Oregon, where he serves as the Operations Manager for the Friends World Committee for Consultation, Section of the Americas. He is married to Melody and they have two children. Gil started writing poetry in 2018 as he recovered from a severe head injury caused by a bicycle accident. Poetry was a way to process the trauma and try to grapple with understanding and articulating the state of his mental health, or lack thereof.
Often seen chasing his dog Oreo while she chases squirrels, Gil also enjoys reading, playing video games, board games, and creating welcoming spaces where folks can enjoy a meal and good conversation. Gil is available to discuss his poetry, reclaiming lament as worship, navigating the transition times after trauma in faith communities, the important work of the Friends World Committee for Consultation, and the experience of collecting the data on Quakers for the 2020 US Religion Census.
